Meet Our Principal Lawyer

Principal lawyer and founder Philip Whalen began his legal practice with James D. Hughes, K.C. and Katrina Brannan, K.C., first as a student-at-law in 2012 and then as an associate lawyer in 2014. Since then, Philip has carved out a practice involving criminal law, injury law, litigation, property transactions and estates.

Philip has appeared before all levels of court within the province both as trial and appellate counsel.  He routinely appears in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal in both the civil and criminal context.  Philip is the local agent for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada and therefore prosecutes federally enforced offences such as Controlled Drug and Substance Act offences, Canadian Cannabis Act violations, as well as any contravention under the Fisheries Act.

Philip is a member of the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association, the Criminal Lawyers Association, and the Canadian Bar Association.

Philip has a young family and he and his wife are actively involved in supporting the local community in and around the Clarenville area. This region is an exciting place to practice law and raise a family.
